"Satin and Shadows", 14"x11", pastel on sanded paper.  

Ballet shoes are a favorite subject of mine. They offer a unique challenge for creating very specific and descriptive drawing.  The shadows that they cast when lit with a strong directional light source are visually intriguing.

"That is the Question", 24"x30", pastel on sanded paper.

A contemporary and theatrical take on the vanitas tradition.  Bones and particularly skulls have featured in paintings and drawings throughout history.

Blue and white china is a particular favorite of mine.  It shows off light so beautifully.  The butterfly adds a touch of warm color and life to the cool surrounding.
